It's been a long time baby

It's been ages since I last blogged, this summer was quite something, and combined with changes at work and home - promotion and daughter off to Uni, not to mention the horrific political landscape that is Brexit, my mind hasn't really been in the right place.
I suspect I'm not alone in this !
I've also been thinking a lot about globalisation and homogenisation as the high streets I visit appear more and more similar with coffee chains and clothes shops that merge into corporate beige, and trying to do what I can about supporting local independent businesses . For most of us things like this are a balancing act, if you're busy then time can be tight, and who isn't watching what they spend ? But doing things locally where possible can also mean less driving, more walking and for me making me feel more a part of the community.
I've also never really had Caribbean food, so when a new cafe opened (literally opposite my house) specialising in healthy Caribbean food all my boxes were ticked.

The family that runs the cafe are as much about the journey as the destination, both in terms of the service - which is personal and spot on, and also the ethos of the cafe. And the food well it was delicious. When we mentioned that the cakes looked tempting we were given a sample of chocolate cake

Appreciating what's on your front door has never been easier !

If you live around SE London, it's really worth visiting - it's called Totlins.

Anyone else have any local gems that they'd like to share, I'm curious to know if others want to shop/ eat more locally ( or if they do) ?

  1. This looks lovely, Karen. And our thinking these last months is very much aligned. Sigh.

  2. Whatever happened to the work/ life balance where we all worked from home and technology made it all easier ? As opposed to making idiots feel like they can make demands of you that need immediate resolution
